Solitude

woman sitting on dock during daytime

It drips like water from a leaky tap.
Creating a sound but just enough.
A rhythmic tapping like a slow dance.

I crave for it and embrace it.
As it hugs me like a warm duvet.
Pulling me into its deepest folds.

Within it I discover a new essence.
Something free, something safe, something only I know of.
A place of sanity and peace.

A warm fire, a cool drink, an interesting book.
Companions of solitude all.
In the shade or in the sun.

Trauma

Life has a way to unfold that nobody can foresee! Hence is the presence or absence of that supreme force, as one tends to perceive.

Such is the complexity of modern day living that mental health takes a major hit many a times. Human body in that contrast is frail and can endure only so much hits, the mind has a different story to tell. The bruises on it goes unnoticed. The symptoms always visible but one needs a special eye to be aware of them.

Childhood trauma is one such crucial area. Trauma is faced by most individuals as they are growing up, however in most cases the mind heals as the reason disappears or parents, carers do a wonderful job of reassuring the child.

In many cases this trauma persists like a cancer eating away slowly through the membranes of sanity and reasonable attitude. Constant trauma creates anxiety, depression and predisposes the person towards a very unbalanced view of life.

The symptoms can be varied like withdrawal from all things liked by the child, constant worry, mood swings, melancholia, angry outbursts, seeking out solitude, resorting to drugs or alcohol. The tricky bit is that all these symptoms in a child can easily be attributed to the painful act of growing up, turning a teenager etc.

So, hence it all can go unnoticed!

In many cases the child can grow up to be a disturbed adult, socially challenged, maybe criminally active, doing unlawful things, basically a disturbed individual.

In other cases even if the child manages to have a somewhat grip on their psyche and have a fairly successful life as an adult, the trauma reappears at different stages of their life. It can result in broken marriages, unsuccessful relationships, failure as a parent, unable to hold on to a job etc.

In today’s world mental health is thus very crucial for an individual to be thriving. Also. exceedingly crucial is mental health during childhood, issues identified and addressed during formative years can solve many problems looming in the society at large! Making the world a better place to live in.
