Imperfections of a flower

On a lazy Saturday afternoon, we find ourselves with time, as a family. Yes, interesting isn’t it!

It was the first week after school had reopened after a big break of 6 weeks, summer holidays. Exhausted we all were, slowly getting back to a hectic schedule. The afternoon presented to us a nice surprise. So, there we were in the lounge, doing just that, lounging! As an anomaly, the idiot box was switched off. The minute that realisation hit me, I glanced around to observe. My better half had snoozed off under the covers, the precious noon nap! One child was busy reading her book, as she mostly does, the other child scribbling furiously on a drawing pad! Perfect, it seemed to me, sunny outside, cool inside. A stillness descended both soothing and reflective.

Creativity is said to develop in unstructured hours and so it did on that Saturday afternoon. As my little artist crept close to show her finished product. She named it ‘Imperfections of a flower’.

The title of her artwork intrigued me and so I questioned the reason behind it! Her reply was prompt, ‘Flowers are perfect creations, aren’t they mama?, Well even in perfection lies little imperfections and that is what I want to highlight!’

This answer contained life lessons, as i reflected. That its ok to strive for perfection but the journey can be imperfect too! That in spite of all imperfections at the end of the road there is an almost perfect result! Beauty can also lie in imperfections which subtly highlight our inner nature.

The next generation is truly listening when their schools incorporate ‘Growth Mindset’ and stresses the fact that its ok to make mistakes, if you are making mistakes you are actually learning! No path can be perfect and the success lies in getting right back up after each fall, resilience!

I give her a hug and rest back on my couch feeling happy that indeed tomorrow the world might be safe in their hands!
