Friendship

The shores awaited, they were always there

I need to find my feet.

My heart was filled, my mind was made

I will be there in a heartbeat.

I saw my friend, she stood on the shore

waving her hands high.

The ship docked and the land awaited

but my friend, she wasn’t nearby!

Mirror, mirror on the wall

who is thy friend after all?

I wonder why and all this fuss with someone called ‘a friend’

I think and wonder constantly, while I have this poem penned!

Ever since I was a little girl, my feet would chatter and beg me to take a trip once in a while, circumstances growing up, did not permit that at all. With the first idea that came to me as a working adult, was to travel and see the world. So there, I got my wishes granted and travelled quite a bit around the world and I know I would continue to do that ever more.

In the process, initially I was happy to leave my family back home, thinking in my head that well I am always able to make friends! However, adult friendships are never truly the same as the ones you make in your childhood/ girlhood days. Travelling places and making friends does not necessarily complement each other. It has been a journey of revelation, not only discovering new places but also unravelling this complicated relationship called ‘Friendship’. The verdict is still out on that.
