Slow down…

white and black signage mountain on wall

The world it still spins.

The sun it still shines and the trees have flowers.

Yet, for me the world stands still,

No sound, no movement just as if a heavy curtain has draped my window.

The pandemic rages on outside.

Destroying the very fabric of human existence, social bonding.

No touching, no hugging, no physical interaction.

No planning for holidays, no visiting friends and families.

No stepping out of the house unnecessarily.

The list is endless.

Like cutting off the wings of a butterfly,

Life sits heavy and hard on my shoulders.

As a deep pain of missing my family engulfs me.

The road ahead unclear, the path filled with shadows.

Yet, there is light outside

Dolphins have been spotted in the canals of Venice.

The Great Barrier Reef seems to be rejuvenating.

There are ducks swimming freely in the creek.

Sharks are spotted near the coastline.

Nature has a different story to tell.

Nature seems to be enjoying the much-needed respite from the humankind.

Nature seems to be sending a message to us,

‘Slow down and let us heal!’

Like every cloud with a silver lining,

It is clear that are actions have hurt our surroundings.

That our relentless pursuit of wants has created an imbalance in the cosmos.

That we humans have been innately selfish.

The perspective is what this pandemic provides,

That for our existence and our future, that to repair the damage,

We need to stay in and slow down!

Time is the best healer

Patience is the key.

I get up to part the curtains of my window,

A sliver of light filters in.

It is time to embrace that light

And fill my heart with hope.
