Unadulterated

It was that day, the day I finally relinquish my post.

No, I’m not a president or a CEO, I am a high school captain.

I don’t carry the weight of the world on my shoulders just the weight of the school house I represent.

I’m a little sad and a little nervous.

Why? You ask.

Sad obviously because this is my last year in school, sad because I loved being a house captain.

It was something that I aspired to be since I joined school and sat through a few investiture ceremonies.

Life has turned 360 degrees now and I’m about to walk out of the institution I walked in with awe and a bit of fear.

Nervousness creeps in because the world outside now beckons me, whether I’m ready for it, I don’t know!

I have to step out from this snug refuge which was my world for the last five years.

I feel terribly unsure, what is waiting out there?

I have a dream and yes I have a course of action, but life could be unpredictable, I have seen enough of that.

I also just turned 18, which meant now I was officially an adult.

It seemed fun a few years ago, to become an adult, when mum told me off for doing badly in a test.

Now, I’m not sure!

Adult, the word sits hard and heavy on my lips.

Adult means making hard choices and facing the failures head on, as you are responsible for it.

It also does mean freedom but at times I feel I would like someone to make decisions for me, especially the tough ones!

So, here I am giving my last speech in the auditorium where I have sat through many assemblies and events.

The words sometimes choke inside my mouth, tears just a shadow away from rolling down my cheeks.

Smiling faces all around me, supportive faces all around me.

I close my eyes, compose myself and present the newly elected captain her badge.

Smiling once more for the camera, I make my exit.

Out of the post, out of the school eventually.

To be an adult in a world that I still don’t fully understand!

A lullaby

When thoughts collide

a tune is born

like a lullaby to many newborn.

To hear it live

to hear it there

the heart just simply has a love affair.

My daughters have a lullbay, yes they still do and they are ten now! A song from this band called ‘Chandrabindoo’. Last weekend I took them to listen to this band play live. At first, they were quite apprehensive, after the show, when they heard them perform their lullaby on stage, live, they were awestruck!

Music is the song of the soul!
